coastal technical advisory services are those that utilise coastal process knowledge to shape the design of coastal infrastructure. such knowledge is vitally important for maritime engineers to have awareness of. any change to the coast shall instigate a response. the scale of this response may not necessarily reflect the scale of the change, thus maritime engineers need to be cautious in making even marginal changes when they design new or renewed infrastructure.changes can cause consequential changes to sedimentation patterns, vulnerability, erosion, navigation, dredging liability, beach resilience, etc.
further, many clients do not have awareness of the criticality of appropriately managiing changes to coastal infrastructure. in many cases, small changes can hav consequences that are not recognised. this can often have unintended consequences such as a quickly escalating dredging liability and increase dredging liability.
