maritime structures are unique in that these assets are often an integral component of a functional system. such systems include berthing systems, mooring systems and materials handling systems. it is common for these systems to require upgrade, renewal or repair over the course of the structure’s life cycle. these projects can be particularly challenging given that legacy assets can present significant constraints and often do present these constraints. this is due to clients seeking to upgrade performance of assets, for a number of different reasons, to levels of performance that significantly exceed that ever anticipated at the time of design.
