marina and pontoon functional design describes the process of defining the functional requirements for a specialist design task, namely floating pontoons. this is the usual process for procuring floating infrastructure which is normally designed by a naval architect. occasionally, retraint to pontoons is designed by a maritime engineer. in some scenarios, the maritime engineer shall ‘test’ design the restraint system in order to anticpate the feasibility of such a system in some situations. these may include things like large vessels, deep water or unfavourable geotechnical conditions.
