functional design Projects involve a focus upon function and geometry in order to meet functions that are not directly concerned with an asset’s structural or stability functions. this means the design process does not necessarily involve structural calculations. functional design according to sureside’s guidelines occurs throughout the design process but progresses through a specific developmental phase at a stage follows completion of concept and schematic design phases. for some projects, significant development may precede concept design, depending largely upon the scale of function under consideration. what is generally occurs that there are ‘functions’ considered during pre-design, concept and schematic design phases. functional design projects featured here thus comprise projects that have progressed to concept, schematic or functional design stages.
