Jan Juc Beach Access Structure

Sureside provided services great ocean road coast and parks authority to design a beach access stucture servicing jan juc lifesaving club.

the existing accessway was subject to seasonal closure in the wake of significant storm events and on occasions of high flow in an adjacnet creek, with would break through the beach and scour the adjacent dune leaving a significant scarp.

a highly unique feature of the accessway was its fit within the site, fitting over the existing accessway footprint but also seeking to minimise its encroachment over the beach, upon the dune and to be compatible with the dynamic due system it is adjacent to.

these requirements substantially increased the challenges in design and construction. in order to meet requirements the structure needed to be constructed on a curve, which required a highly customised structural arrangement and deck geometry.

sureside prepared a unique design that required custom design detailing and documentation. documentation required specific guidance on constructability to give direction to contractors to ensure that the intent of detailing was clear.
