kellogg, brown & root was engaged by port of melbourne corporation to undertake a condition assessment and design repairs to the station pier building columns and their support structures.
Station Pier was originally constructed in the 1920s and the structure is being progressively rehabilitated. KBR assessed the condition of piles supporting the building columns of the main terminal (the inner and outer cruise terminals), deck areas, piles in other areas, crossheads, beams and fender piles. The condition assessment was the basis for KBR’s subsequent costing and detailed design and documentation of repair works. Matthew killian, as Maritime Design Lead, reviewed design documentation to assess constructability and determine the need for detailing to guard against marine borer attack appropriate to the local environment.
