Lorne Pier Condition Assessment

gorcpa were seeking a condition assessment of its Historic Stub Pier and cost estimation for various scenarios for the structure’s future. Sureside presented a site inspection report that confirmed that signs of deterioration were not as severe as they appeared and that practical options were available for minimising costs in the near term.

gorcpa also sought a condition assessment of the adjacent main Pier along with a swim-through inspection by divers. deliverables would include cost estimation for maintenance over a 10 year time horizon. the main pier was around 15 years into it’s 50 year life cycle. gorcpa were fortunate to have a maintenance plan that was produced at the time of construction that gave significant information about the intended maintenance strategy for the structure. this meant that much of the information for an ongoing maintenance strategy for the pier was already in place.

a significant defect was identified by the diver’s swim through, which is a rare finding. the defect may have been missed at the time of construction. otherwise the structure was generally in good condition, except for some minor defects instigating a need for increased monitoring going forward to appropriately manage future liabilities.
