cowes jetty structural integrity analysis followed from a condition assessment of the cowes jetty approach.
the project involved a second phase of investigation to the structure to correlate observed external indicators of deterioration to that of internal conditions. it is the internal conditions that are of primary importance to function. the investigation was principally destructive testing to verify project internal conditions.
the driver for further investigation ws to rationalise a scope of remediation works.
the subsequent step was to prepare a design for the rehabilitation works. it was firstly determined that an approriate strategy was to augement the structure to extend its residual life to a point where renewal would be considered in the medium term.
augmentation works were prepared that involved the attachment of steel elements to crossheads and piles. the repairs were as per similar repairs to dromana pier and st kilda pier. there were however subtle differences in the structure arrangement from those other assets that required a more complex consideration of tolerances.
sureside anticipated that some of these tolerances were difficult to accommodate for the adopted solution. measures were taken in detailing to maximise these tolerances and hence enhance constructability of the solution. upon completion, these measures meant that expensive delays to the works were avoided.
